At age 23, former US president Herbert Hoover managed the Sons of Gwalia Mine in 1897 only a year after the mine opened. When the mine first closed, 65 years later, 2.5 million ounces of gold had been produced. Today the mine is back in operation finding payable gold and filling the hole.
