Kites (Elanus axillaris) exchanging food

PORTFOLIO PRIZE

These Black-shouldered Kites had two chicks in a nearby nest. The male caught the prey, in this case a mouse, then flew back towards the nest where he met the female half-way. Using their talons, they exchanged the prey mid-air, and the female returned to the nest to feed the chicks.
