Dusky Moorhens brawl

ANIMAL BEHAVIOUR

During breeding season Dusky Moorhens are often involved in fights – probably over nesting areas and/or potential mating partners. In this image a pair of birds (in the centre and right) attacked the one on the left. The fight involves hitting each other with their long legs and toes and attempting to push each other under water. I stood in waist-deep water to get this low angle.
