Short-beaked Echidna

During the week we spent on the island last winter, I saw four Echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus). This shy animal was very keen on disappearing into the vegetation. If disturbed, it immediately curled itself in a ball. You needed to be very patient and careful to take pictures among the branches crackling under your feet!
