Ants milking Leafhopper nymphs

ANIMAL BEHAVIOUR

I spotted these Ants ‘milking’ the Leafhopper (Eurymeloides bicincta) nymphs for honeydew on a Gum Tree sapling. These particular Ants were one of three species attending the hoppers, which seemed oblivious to the attention. Because the Ants were constantly moving, balancing the ambient light with fill-flash to avoid movement blur was a bit tricky.
